The known history of the Pavese family originates in Treville Monferrato, and covers ten generations of wine growers/producers. Livio, born on 3 March 1928, continues the tradition in the family's agricultural business where he starts working at the age of 13, experimenting in the vineyards with the grafts directly on American wine stocks. After the war, the wish to discover the world outside the small village and the need to know about new commercial developments, take Livio to Milan to work in a wine shop owned by a piedmontese in Porta Genova.

After a series of jobs in restaurants in the town, always with the task of selecting and stocking wines for the cellars, at the age of 22 he starts on his own by managing a wine shop in Porta Volta, an experience which grows two years later into larger and more important premises in Viale Monza.

After his marriage in 1952 to Lisa Gugiatti, Livio acquires the Cantinetta in Via Santa Maria Segreta 6, Milan.

The "cantinetta" anticipates the concept of the new fashionable snack/sandwich bar by developing a wide range of proposals and the tasting of great wines, especially from Piemonte, all of this supported by the acquired experience and the rural origins of its manager. At the same time and for a brief period, to widen his knowledge in the field of the distribution, he works as a salesman for Gancia for one of the Milan areas.
To develop and strengthen the small family business, in 1960 he creates in Treville a plant for the bottling of a selection of great wines of Piemonte.

In the following years, Livio Pavese concentrates his activity on the company in Treville Monferrato. The attention given to the vineyards - among them the crus Podere S'Antonio are of special standing - and the constant care of the winery, show their results with the production of a range of wines that gain the attention of the market for their high level of quality. Beside his primary task he continues his import/export activity, selecting great wines from other European areas and exporting noble wines from Piemonte to a market that now reaches many parts of the world. In particular, Livio Pavese now exports to Germany, England, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, USA, Japan, Sverige, Norway, Canada and some South American countries like Brazil.

In the 1995, with regret, Livio Pavese closes the more than positive and interesting experience of the "cantinetta" in Milan. The care for the development of the business in Treville and the desire to devote more time to the selection of wines for import/export, also in consideration of the ever rapid evolution of the markets and of the needs of the consumers, has compelled him to make this choice in favour of what has always been his first business.

Many recognition confirm Livio Pavese's professionality and his long-standing commitment to the wine sector. Among many others : four Oscars of the Asti Douja d'Or, silver medal at the International Wines and Spirit Competition of 1983 in London (the only one given to Italian red wines), second place at the Barolo wine tasting organised by the American magazine The Wine Spectator in 1984, second place at the tasting organised by the magazine Decanter in London in 1984.

Other commitments to which Livio Pavese had given much time and energy - first among them the 15 years as mayor of the splendid village of Treville and the long-standing role of director for the Consorzio del Barbera - have been given up so that more time and resources can be applied to further improvement of the company. After all, it is in this difficult but generous land of Monferrato that Livio Pavese's family and work have their roots.
